Grades K–4: Time Travelers: Exploring Early America:

In this fun and imaginative class, younger learners will journey through key moments in American history — from Native American cultures and colonial life to westward expansion. We’ll use stories, crafts, songs, and simple map work to bring the past to life.

Grades 5–8: Building a Nation: The Story of American History:

This class gives upper elementary and middle schoolers a big-picture view of American history — from colonization through the 20th century. Students will explore how our nation formed, faced internal conflict, and found its place on the world stage.

Grades 9–12: Shaping America: History, Ideas & Impact

This advanced course gives high school students a deeper look at the people, events, and ideas that shaped the United States — from early colonization to the present day. We’ll dig into political movements, cultural shifts, economic changes, and key turning points that defined our nation’s path. Through primary sources, discussions, and critical analysis, students will connect past events to the issues and ideas that continue to shape America today.

Grades K–4: Story Seeds: Growing Young Writers:

In Story Seeds, young learners will plant the foundations of storytelling through fun, imaginative activities. This course introduces basic writing skills like sentence structure, punctuation, and vocabulary, while encouraging children to explore their creativity by crafting stories inspired by their own experiences and the world around them. Each week blends storytelling, drawing, and simple writing exercises to make writing feel like a joyful adventure.

Grades 5–8 Course: Creative Sparks: Writing With Purpose:

Creative Sparks helps middle-grade writers build confidence by combining creative storytelling with essential writing skills. Students will learn how to craft engaging plots, develop characters, and use dialogue, while also practicing technical skills like grammar, paragraph structure, and organizing ideas clearly. This course encourages students to experiment with different genres, from short stories to personal narratives.

Grades 9–12 Course: Write to Impact: Advanced Creative & Technical Writing:

Write to Impact challenges high school writers to refine their creative voice while mastering advanced writing techniques. The course blends narrative creativity with technical precision — focusing on essay writing, persuasive techniques, literary analysis, and original storytelling. Students will engage with various styles, learn research and citation basics, and develop polished drafts ready for publication or college submission.

Our book club is a cozy hangout where kids get to explore timeless classic stories that have captivated readers for generations.

Together, we’ll dive into beloved tales, chat about unforgettable characters, and discover why these books are still so special today.

It’s a fun way to make new friends, spark a love for reading, and connect over stories that have stood the test of time!

Start Smart introduces high school students to the exciting world of entrepreneurship by combining creative problem-solving with practical business skills.

This course covers the essentials—from computer basics and business planning to sales techniques and marketing strategies.

Students will develop hands-on projects to build their own mini-business ideas, learn how to pitch concepts, and gain the confidence to turn ideas into action.

Hi, I’m Katie — founder and lead teacher at The Hive. I hold a master’s degree in creative writing and am currently halfway through a doctorate in history. Alongside teaching, I run a small marketing and web design agency. As a veteran homeschool mom, I know how powerful it is when kids feel excited about learning, supported to explore, and free to ask questions. That’s why I created The Hive—a place where students thrive as they discover new ideas, build confidence, and connect deeply with their studies.

When I’m not teaching or working, you’ll find me reading, writing, watching British crime television, and hanging out with my family.
